At New Year Capital, we invest in and partner with exceptional family or founder-owned businesses. With a focus on health & wellness and education & training businesses in Canada, we are interested in companies that have both a positive impact on their community and sustainable profitability. Our goal is to honour the founder's legacy while leveraging new capital and talent to grow into the future.
New Year Capital is a family firm, run by Loren Cohen
Loren is a former corporate lawyer turned founder. I grew up in a house where entrepreneurship was revered and business was dinner table conversation. After starting and exiting my own business in the education technology space, I am now looking to acquire and operate a high-quality business that I can grow, with integrity, over time.
I live in Toronto with my husband, two young daughters and dog. My goal is for the business I partner with to become part of my family’s dinner table conversation!

Our Investment Criteria
What we look for in a business:
Solid Revenue Base, Sustainable Profits
At least $1.5M in revenue with demonstrated profitability over 3+ years. The business has well established customer relationships and has been around for over 5 years
Greater Toronto Area
We’re focused on GTA-based businesses because we plan to be hands-on operators
We’re also open to remote or semi-remotely operated businesses across Canada
Structure
We are looking for a majority ownership share of the company but we are otherwise very flexible (and creative) on tailoring the structure to fit everyone’s needs
Our Areas of Interest
We’re focused on investing in health & wellness and education & training.
Here are some examples of businesses that we’re particularly excited about:
Health & wellness services like Physical Therapies such as Physio, Chiro, Pelvic Floor Clinics, etc.
Hormone health services such as Fertility Clinics or Men’s Health Clinics
Paediatric Therapies such as ABA, SLT, OT, etc.
Youth Enrichment Programming such as extra-curricular programming in swimming, dance, STEM, etc.
Youth Education & Care such as private childcare (non-CWELCC), schools or alternative education offerings
Domestic trade colleges
